In this article, we have given two American recipes that are not only popular, but are also extremely healthy.

1. Oven Fried Chicken

Ingredients

4 (8-ounce) chicken breast halves (with bones)
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cracker meal
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter

Method

Mix chicken and buttermilk in a shallow bowl. Make sure that the chicken is completely coated with buttermilk. Take another shallow dish and mix flour and cracker meal. Now shift the chicken in buttermilk on a sterile surface. Sprinkle half teaspoon of pepper and salt over the chicken. Coat the chicken with the flour mixture and dust off excess bits of flour. Now put the chicken in a separate bowl. Melt butter using an oven-proof skillet and cook the chicken from both sides until it turns golden brown. Now take off the pan from the range and put it into 425 degrees F preheated oven for at least 30 minutes. Serve it with coleslaw and mashed potatoes.

2. Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

Gravy
3 tbsp flour
2 - 3 cups of milk

Salt and pepper to taste

1lb sausage meat

Biscuits
1/4 cup of shortening
2 cups self-raising flour

1/4 cup of milk

Method

Crush sausage meat in a pan and fry it until the meat changes color, i.e. does not remain pink. Start adding one tablespoon flour at a time and keep stirring quickly until it takes form of a paste. Turn heat high. Now, add milk and stir, and then add salt. This blend should be thick to give a better taste. To prepare biscuits, combine flour and shortening using a pastry cutter. However, if you do not have it, you can do it in any other way that suits you. Add more milk and continue stirring. Knead dough in a large bowl and then put it onto a well-floured surface. Now roll it out carefully and slice into round shapes. You can use bottle necks or glasses for better shapes. Now put the biscuits on to a baking sheet. Let them bake at 425 degrees F for at least 10 to 15 minutes or until the biscuits turn golden brown. You can serve the biscuits cut-up or open faced with sausage gravy as topping.
